Pengambilan gambar video klip Paralyzed ini di ambil di Indonesia dan Los Angeles. Di Indonesia Paralyzed disutradarai oleh Alyandra Pandjipoera dan untuk di L.A disutradarai oleh David Lehre (Kawan Agnes saat menjadi host red carpet di American Music Awards). Konsepnya unik mencampurkan perpaduan nuansa tradisional Indonesia dan taste mancanegara. Buat saya video klip Paralyzed ini adalah sebuah fashion music video karena memunculkan banyak pakaian yang unik dan edgy. Di awal video kita bisa melihat Agnes dengan wig keriting merah sambil membawa bongkahan emas berbentuk chocolate bar bertuliskan Agnes Is My Name. Di scene berikutnya Agnes masuk ke dalam sebuah bar/club yang berisi manusia – manusia unik, disana Agnes menemukan sesosok pria ganteng lalu Agnes menyimpan gold bar-nya itu di atas meja bar tempat pria itu duduk. Selanjutnya video banyak mengambil gambar Agnes yang sedang menari, berdua dengan pria ganteng tersebut, dan banyak adegan close-up Agnes dengan berbagai macam

Menurut saya video klip Paralyzed ini kurang fokus akan pesan dan jalan cerita yang ingin disampaikan, video klip ini lebih cenderung memperlihatkan fashion style dari Agnes Monica dibanding jalan ceritanya. Satu hal yang saya sayangkan adalah antara konsep video klip di Indonesia dengan yang dibuat di Los Angeles tidak sama dan malah terlihat dipaksa melebur dalam satu kesatuan. Menurut saya versi Indonesia dengan pakaian – pakaian spektakuler dengan unsur tradisional seperti batik dan kebaya sudah sangat bagus ditambah set studio yang megah tetapi ketika dilebur dengan video yang dibuat di LA terlihat jadi timpang karena yang versi David Lehre lebih minimalis, dark, dan sexy. Rasanya akan sangat bijak jika video klip Paralyzed dibuat dalam dua versi bukan dileburkan begitu saja karena versi L.A buatan David Lehre sangat bagus jika berdiri sendiri dengan konsepnya dan versi Indonesia garapan Alyandra Pandjipoera akan menjadi sangat epic dengan wardrobe yang istimewa.

Membicarakan fashion Agnes Monica di video klip ini mungkin mengingatkan pada video – video penyanyi luar seperti Lady Gaga, Rihanna, dan Beyonce. Model sepatu – sepatu unik dan baju dari kabel – kabel sangat mengingatkan dengan yang dipakai Lady Gaga dalam video Bad Romance juga adegan dalam Phone Booth yang mirip Telephone milik Lady Gaga. Rambut merah keriting mengingatkan saya pada video S&M milik Rihanna dan mungkin Sania pada era Bablas di awal 2000-an. Style Agnes Monica dengan shemale dancers mirip dengan perpaduan Sasha-Fierce Era-nya Beyonce juga video klip Freakum Dress dan tone video – video Rated-R Era-nya Rihanna, sangat sexy dan dark.

Up’s sorry dalam bahasa inggris, sambil belajar yahhhhhhh............

My first comment about the music video is – I was shocked. My first impression about this MV was this MV is not for everyone. I believe some of us are really strict about the connection between music video and the song itself. I’m not one of them though. I’m not always trying to connect everything up. Because sometimes, it is what it is. No need to think hard and just enjoy it. It’s the same with “Paralyzed” in my point of view. Looking at this music video I believe those storyline addict will think of this video as confusing. But as for me, I seriously enjoy this video.

Few years ago, there’s a movie in Indonesia called “Cinta Silver” played by Luna Maya and Restu Sinaga. I’m not a fans of this movie story line, but this movie is beautiful as well. I really enjoy the colorful outfit wore by Luna Maya, and the amazing scenery in Bali. In the music video, Agnes Monica beside trying to sell her song, she also try to promote Indonesian Cultures. I believe for so many years (whether we like ir or not) Indonesia doesn’t have really bright image in the eyes of foreigners. And, couple weeks ago I asked my friend who live in US about Indonesia. Yes, some of them still think that BALI is a separate country and not part of Indonesia and they never think that Indonesia got very rich cultures. I don’t blame them as well, reading the newspaper these days make me afraid that the image of Indonesia now a days are porn videos, corruption, crime, etc. there fore we need something to change this perspective. It won’t be easy but it doesn’t mean that we can’t try.

Music is universal. I even listening to Korean song even though I don’t really get the full meaning of the song. That also mean that music is a powerful weapon. Back to “Paralyzed” music video, Agnes Monica in her own way try to promote Indonesian Cultures by modifying Batik, Kebaya (both are Indonesian culture) to make them more glamorous. One of my favorite property from the music video is the “Batik” phone booth. Those kind of phone booth are usually red and it’s common to see in Europe. But she cover the whole phone booth with Batik and it looks so amazing. And also, Agnes Monica confidently wearing Kebaya on this music video.

As for the dance moves on this video, the practice session she had with Ellen Kim, Tricia Miranda and really pays off. The dance moves in the music video look so powerful and surely different from Agnes Monica previous dance moves. And in my mind I sincerely hope that Agnes Monica will release another music video from “Paralyzed” with contains the full dance moves. It will be great to see.

In the end, I’m really proud that Agnes Monica has this music video. And now I have something to show my friend overseas that "Hey, Indonesia got this cool singer who mix our culture with Western Culture.." and I will feel proud about this. What about you?
